What Are You Giving Up For Lent?

Being from a Sourthern Baptist church I never celebrated Lent or Ash Wednesday. I am getting a late start on it this year but after doing some research and talking to some people from church I have finally learned what lent really is about.

From what I have learned, Lent is a 40 day time period (not counting Sundays) that we give up something that stands in the way of our relationship with the Lord. I am personally looking at this time period as a way to start fresh and focus on God. I am repenting of all the sins I have commited and starting a new.

I have decided to give up caffine (except the caffine in my migraine meds). I know caffine isnt something really standing in the way but for my health its a good place to start. I have also decided to spend time each week with my daughter and try to teach her the meaning of Lent and the meaning of Easter. Being that she is 3, I dont expect alot from her, but it makes me feel like I am doing something right.

So what are you giving up?

Here is an article for those of you who are wanting to know more about Lent:
